One of the last original corner stores left in Seattle, the Carleton Avenue Grocery is a small grocery with a huge heart, situated in the middle of the mixed residential/industrial neighborhood of Georgetown. Re-opened and restored to the buildings's original motif, the owner's of Carleton Avenue Grocery had one thing in mind when deciding to open a retail grocery store: convenience and choice for the their neighbors in Georgetown.
You will notice, when you first walk in Carleton Avenue Grocery, that there are memories of a more simpler time here. The store is decorated like a old country museum with nostalgia, plaques and books all related to the history of Georgetown - and the Carleton Avenue Grocery (aka The Country Inn roadhouse). A vintage stereo plays the local pirate radio station in the background of this family business. A sample tray of the newest seasonal snack is on the counter. Neighbors catch up on the bench outside over coffee and tea. Everybody seems to know each others name.
A huge fresh food cooler filled with crisp produce calls your name. Then get lost in the endless shelves of unique pre-packed meals, snacks, desserts, wines and home goods. Everyday staples fill up every nook and cranny. The freezer is packed with the best organic frozen treats. Every soda is sold in a glass bottle and all are made with real sugar. Everything about this store feels homemade, down to the cards and gifts rack, filled with handcrafted goods made by local artisans.
Yet filled with personality, where the Carleton Avenue Grocery differentiates themselves the most from traditional neighborhood groceries, is in the vast selection of vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free foods.
